The current Law On Concessions, dated 30 August 1995, is fairly brief, requiring further supporting legislation for the protection of the concessionaire’s rights. It is apparent that investments on the basis of concessions have not been attempted in Uzbekistan before and are aimed at the development of the natural resources sector. As such, the way in which it is likely to be implemented by Uzbek authorities remains unclear. That being said, the fact that it has never been tried before may in itself be advantageous.
