General Overview

Unlike the European countries and some countries of the former Soviet Union the Republic of Uzbekistan has not yet developed legislation governing data protection issues and data protection law, this is still not a well developed area of domestic legislation.

There are no specific legal acts dedicated to the issues and methods of data protection, neither does legislation precisely identify the notions of personal data, data controller, data processing and others. The exception here is the banking sector which is regulated by the Law on Bank secrecy.
