As provided by the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 638-XII on “Trade Unions, Their Rights and Guarantees of Their Activity” dated 2 July 1992 (hereinafter “Law on Trade Unions”) the trade unions are voluntary social organizations unifying working people connected with common interests by the nature of their occupation both in production and non-production areas for protection of labour, social and economic rights and interests of their members. Trade unions and their bodies are legal entities having their assets and money resources.
Trade unions in their activity are independent of state bodies, economic bodies, political and other social organizations and shall not be accountable to such bodies and organizations except for the cases provided by legislation.
